Self Care is a detrimental for everyone. Especially during this time of the pandemic of Covid-19. Take care and be safe.
The four M’s consist of fully caring for yourself. Me-Time, Move your body Meditation and recognizing that Me-Too can use a little help.
Me Time
The first step is a must. You deserve a healthy relationships even with yourself. If you only have 15 minutes a day, utilize it. Do something that feels good to you. If you enjoy finishing a cup of coffee, tea, a glass of wine, or reading a few pages to finish a chapter. As a parent of a child with special abilities, I try and finish a HOT cup of coffee in the morning or spending time meditating on gratitude.
Move your body
This can seem daunting at times however this is another must for any parent. Just as we love our family, we have to spend time loving our bodies. A normal song lasts 3-5 minutes. That means that if you move for 5 minutes based on a speed at 3.5 mph it can equal 624 steps. I don’t enjoy going to the gym however I love music so I dance. I dance with the entire family if able so get up, turn on some music and get moving.
Meditate
Commit to two minutes a day. Find a quiet spot, sit comfortably and focus on your breathing.
Get comfortable and prepare to sit still for a few minutes. Simply focus on your own natural inhaling and exhaling of breath.
Focus on your breath. Where do you feel your breath most? In your belly? In your nose? Try to keep your attention on your inhale and exhale.
Follow your breath for two minutes. Take a deep inhale, expanding your belly, and then exhale slowly, elongating the out-breath as your belly contracts.
Me Too
I too am guilty of not taking the time for myself so I am currently practicing this method. Im awake during the middle of the night due to my child suffering from seizures. I have to schedule every meal to even showering and have a plan b if needed incase of any delays due to being fatigue. Sometimes I have to ask for help from a loved one, friend or a respite nurse to assist during my day.
